More than that, it’s an ongoing project to find out what a videogame festival could be.
Unlike a lot of videogame events, it’s not really a place to come and play them - we’d rather do that at home on the sofa. But if you do love videogames, you’re going to find lots here to enjoy.
Rather than us try and explain what it is, how about a few words from people who’ve been?
“Gamecity looks poised to become our industry’s first “Sundance”. A truly unique approach for hosting a game festival that seems long overdue.” - Lorne Lanning
“..promises to be the most inventively programmed new arts festival of the year.” - The Times
“OK, UK people, drop everything and listen up. Nottingham is hosting a videogames cultural festival called GameCity and their stuff is sounding really exciting. Nice and home-made, sort of cosy, but with massive names involved.” - Wonderland
“GameCity shows us how a games shindig should be run” - Edge Magazine
We’d like to think that there’s something at GameCity for anyone who’s interested in interesting things. If there’s something you’d really like to see us do which we haven’t yet - then get in touch!
This year it’s like there are two festivals.
Gatecrasher.
There are LOTS of brilliant events happening at Gatecrasher. These things that are a little bit more specialised, for people who are really into games, games culture and how they’re made.
